Treating hair-loss

Hair-loss is progressive. The earlier you begin, the better your long-term results will be. This is because dying (miniaturising) hair follicles can be revived to become healthy again and repopulated with hairs while dead hair follicles cannot be brought back to life. By starting early, less follicles will have died and more follicles can be made healthy and hairy again.

Men who start treatment at the early signs of thinning or recession can stop-hair loss and even regrow their hair, preventing the need for expensive and unpleasant treatments later on.

Our treatments

At Men's Hair Clinic, we prescribe hair loss treatments in line with the most up to date guidelines and clinical research.

Our treatments come in the form of oral tablets and topical liquids, and include common hair loss medications such as minoxidil and finasteride. These medications can be taken alone or in compounded formulations that tackle your hair loss from two different angles in the one treatment.

Topical hair loss treatments

Minoxidil has been the topical treatment for hair loss for decades. In recent years, research has emerged showing that combinations of minoxidil and anti-androgen medications such as finasteride show a higher effectiveness than minoxidil alone. These topical treatments have the benefit of targeting the scalp directly, which decreases the risk of side effects when compared to oral tablets.

Oral hair loss treatments

Oral tablets are easy to take once-daily options for hair loss. Prescription tablets can contain medications such as finasteride or minoxidil. There are also many over the counter options for hair loss, containing ingredients such as saw palmetto, caffeine and marine extracts, though these have less robust evidence to support their effectiveness.

Other treatments

This can involve using hair pieces or wigs, or micropigmentation (a tattoo that likens a shaved scalp).

LLLT uses wavelengths of light between 600 and 1100nm to encourage hair growth, either in a clinic or with laser combs or caps at home. Though not as effective as prescribed medications, it is a non-invasive and cost-effective option, and is usually used in conjunction with other therapies.

Tiny needles cause controlled tissue microinjury, which promotes healing and growth. Microneedling is usually used in conjunction with topical therapies as it improves their absorption through the skin.

PRP contains the beneficial platelets, growth factors and signaling molecules involved in hair regrowth. It shows good results, though does require ongoing maintenance injections. As the patient's blood needs to be isolated and injected into the scalp by a trained professional, PRP is a more expensive option.

This involves surgical relocation of healthy hair follicles from the back or sides of the scalp to the thinning areas of hair.
